ACOSS petition urging government action

As the weather heats up, many members of our community are living in unbearably hot homes.

There are no minimum energy efficiency standards for Australian homes and as a result, many private and public rental properties are simply not built to withstand our increasingly hot summers.

And people on the lowest incomes, who are already depriving themselves of energy in the face of mounting gas and electricity bills, simply can’t afford to run fans or invest in air conditioners. That means that they are forced to live in hot boxes that are making them sick.

ACTION: sign this petition urging the Australian Government to retrofit low-income homes and introduce minimum energy efficiency standards in rental properties, to make them cooler in the summer and cheaper to run. Because everyone deserves to live in a healthy, energy-efficient home.
