Is Tasmania really clean and green?

Is Tasmania really clean and green?

Tasmania mines coal, with expansion plans predicted to take the industry to ~1.5-2 million tonnes of capacity per year. If you missed Jack Redpath's talk, catch the video of the event in the link below.

This event has now ended, however you can watch the recording here:  Jack Redpath, Tasmanian conservationist, speaks out on Tasmania's coal industry and dirty energy mix.

Tasmania is portrayed as a climate leader in Australia and the world. This could  not be further from the truth. Tasmania mines coal, with expansion  plans predicted to take the industry to ~1.5-2 million tonnes of  capacity per year.

Less  than 30% of Tasmania’s total energy comes from renewable sources. If  Tasmania became its own country today, our per capita emissions of 28.92  tonnes of CO2-e per person would place us as the 2 nd highest emitter  in the world, above countries like Saudi Arabia, Russia and the United  Arab Emirates.

Jack  Redpath has worked in conservation and energy for over 10 years. His  work includes the successful carbon neutrality and divestment campaigns  at UTAS, stopping the 150mtpa Dudgeon Point Coal Export Terminal near  Mackay (QLD) and six years at the Tasmanian Conservation Trust.
