Submission on Review of Tas Lobbying Oversight System
Jul
2023
The Tasmanian Climate Collective’s submission to the review of Tasmania’s Lobbying Oversight System calls for stronger transparency, accountability and democratic safeguards around lobbying. It recommends extending oversight to local government, requiring lobbyists to disclose their activities and political donations, publishing ministerial diaries, and strengthening the Lobbyist Register. The submission also advocates for legislated lobbying standards, stronger sanctions, longer cooling-off periods for former public officials, a ban on “dual hatting” for the full term of elected officials, disclosure of paid access and a ban on gifts from all lobbyists. It concludes by calling for adequate, independent resourcing of the Integrity Commission and robust, accessible oversight processes.
