Submission on the 2024 Draft Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plan for the Agriculture Sector

Oct

2024

The Tasmanian Climate Collective's submission on the draft Agriculture sector Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plan calls for a sector emissions reduction target of 37-47% by 2030 and a 73% cut in sheep and cattle methane emissions intensity by 2030, based on 2020 levels. It recommends supporting farmers to transition to alternative proteins, prioritising Tasmanian food security over export markets, favouring direct emissions cuts over carbon offsetting, extending the federal Safeguard Mechanism to large agricultural producers, and boosting soil carbon sequestration through regenerative agriculture and blue carbon protection.
