#FixTheAct

The government's response to the Climate Change Act review is a missed opportunity. Tell your MP we need real adaptation plans and an independent climate body.

Submission on the 2024 Draft Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plan for the Energy Sector

Oct

2024

The Tasmanian Climate Collective's submission on the draft Energy sector Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plan calls for an energy sector emissions reduction target of 32-37% by 2030, an end to further fossil fuel exploration in Tasmania including no new mining leases or offshore gas, and a rapid phase-out of methane gas with a ban on new gas connections. It recommends prioritising rooftop solar and household and community batteries over large centralised generation, restricting green hydrogen to hard-to-abate heavy industry, limiting biomass and bioenergy use, and ensuring new renewable projects deliver genuine community benefit and local employment. The submission also calls for the Climate Change Act to require independent, science-based targets and broader community consultation in developing sector plans.
