#FixTheAct

The government's response to the Climate Change Act review is a missed opportunity. Tell your MP we need real adaptation plans and an independent climate body.

Submission on the 2024 Draft Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plan for the Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry Sector

Oct

2024

The Tasmanian Climate Collective's submission on the draft Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) sector Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plan calls for an immediate end to native forest logging, describing it as Tasmania's highest-emitting sector and the single most effective climate action available to the state. It argues Tasmania can no longer rely on LULUCF sequestration to net out emissions from other sectors and opposes using forests as carbon offsets, while welcoming farm forestry as a strength of the draft plan. It also calls for transparent, disaggregated reporting of forestry emissions and sequestration, and warns that expanding bioenergy risks driving further native forest logging.
