Submission on the Draft Threatened Species Strategy
Apr
2026
The Tasmanian Climate Collective's submission on the draft Threatened Species Strategy argues that its species-by-species framing is insufficient because climate change operates at landscape and ecosystem scale, and calls for the strategy to explicitly embed climate change as a foundational threat across all four pillars. It recommends integrating climate vulnerability assessments into prioritisation of species, threats and places, mapping and protecting climate refugia, establishing habitat connectivity corridors to refugia as a priority restoration outcome, and building a dedicated climate-impact research and monitoring program plus trigger-based adaptive management review.
