Submission on the Tasmanian Climate Change Risk Assessment (Follow-up)
Oct
2023
TCC's follow-up comments to the 2023 Tasmanian Climate Risk Assessment, submitted after the September workshop, arguing that governance should be added as a fifth risk domain alongside the natural, social, economic and built environment domains already assessed. Key points: - Omitting a Governance domain is a serious gap, since governance underpins risk across every other domain - Risks from industry influence over policy, weak political donation laws and the absence of an independent climate authority - Opportunity to establish a Tasmanian Commission for Future Generations to support longer-term decision-making - Risks from poor community engagement delaying the renewable energy transition - Risk that Tasmania's LULUCF-driven net zero status breeds complacency about emissions from other sectors
