Submission to the 2024 Inquiry into Energy Matters in Tasmania
Aug
2024
This follow-up submission from the Tasmanian Climate Collective to the Tasmanian Parliament's Inquiry into Energy Matters calls for rapid adoption of 100% renewable energy across all sectors while ensuring low-income Tasmanians share in the benefits of the transition. It highlights the underused potential of rooftop solar and distributed energy resources over vulnerable large centralised generation, raises concerns about Tasmania's growing reliance on the fossil-fuelled Tamar Valley Power Station during dry years, and cautions against an export-focused green hydrogen industry given limited spare renewable capacity. It calls for all new clean energy developments to meet high social and environmental standards and for state-owned entities to lead by example.
