Submission to the Duty of Care and Intergenerational Equity Bill
Nov
2023
The Tasmanian Climate Collective’s submission supports the Climate Change Amendment (Duty of Care and Intergenerational Equity) Bill 2023, arguing that governments should be legally required to consider the health and wellbeing of children and future generations when making decisions that affect climate change. It highlights the disproportionate influence of fossil fuel industries and calls for stronger safeguards against decisions that prioritise short-term economic interests over long-term community wellbeing. The submission also advocates phasing out fossil fuel expansion and using the proposed duty of care to support renewable energy, sustainable transport, waste reduction and other climate solutions.
