Submission to the Inquiry into the Nature Positive Bill 2024
Jul
2024
The Tasmanian Climate Collective's submission to the Inquiry into the Nature Positive Bill 2024 calls for climate change to be explicitly embedded in national environmental law. It recommends a climate trigger and mandatory assessment of full lifecycle emissions, including downstream emissions, under the EPBC Act, an independent EPA led via transparent governance with community merits-review rights, repeal of Regional Forest Agreement exemptions for native forest logging, and a legislated definition of unacceptable impacts for matters of national environmental significance, including a hard 20-hectare approval trigger for deforestation in critical habitat.
