Submission to the Senate Select Committee on the Taxation of Gas Resources
Apr
2026
The Tasmanian Climate Collective's submission to the Senate Select Committee on the Taxation of Gas Resources calls for the ineffective Petroleum Resource Rent Tax to be replaced with a flat 25% tax on LNG export revenue, noting that gas exports worth 70 billion over four years have paid no royalties or PRRT. It also supports phasing out fossil fuel subsidies such as the Fuel Tax Credit Scheme, capped at 0 million a year, and argues additional gas tax revenue should fund the clean energy transition, climate adaptation and a loss-and-damage fund, cost-of-living relief, and decommissioning of abandoned fossil fuel facilities.
